Browns Hit Historic Low After Loss to Vikings

The Cleveland Browns and their fan base have grown used to disappointment. On Sunday, rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel became the team’s 41st starting quarterback since 1999, joining passers such as Spergon Wynn, Thad Lewis and Ty Detmer.

Gabriel played well, but couldn’t push the Browns over the hump during a 21-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin. He went 19 for 33 for 190 yards and two touchdown passes, a 1-yard strike to Harold Fannin Jr. and a 9-yarder to David Njoku.

“From ESPN Research: The Browns have scored 17 or fewer in 10 straight games dating back to last season, tied for the longest streak in franchise history (1975),” ESPN Browns reporter Daniel Oyefusi wrote Sunday on X. “It’s the longest streak by any team since the 2007 49ers (9). The last 10-game streak was by the 2000-01 Cardinals (13).”

Jake Plummer started the majority of Arizona’s games during that stretch.

The last time Cleveland pinned up more than 17 points was during a 41-32 Monday night road loss against the Denver Broncos last December. That setback dropped the Browns to 3-9 on the year.

Jameis Winston went 34 for 58 for 497 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions, the last of which Ja’Quan McMillan returned 44 yards for a game-sealing score.

Cleveland will aim to get back in the win column when it visits the AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers next Sunday. The only game the Browns have won during the 10-game stretch was a 13-10 win over Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers in Week 3.
