Browns Terminate Contract of 23-Year-Old Pass Rusher

The Cleveland Browns have released defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp from the practice squad/injured list, ending his brief tenure with the organization just days into the 2026 regular season, via the NFL transaction log.

Sapp, a 23-year-old undrafted free agent out of Florida, signed with Cleveland on May 8 after going unselected in the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Fort Lauderdale native and St. Thomas Aquinas product spent five seasons with the Gators, finishing his college career with 125 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, and four forced fumbles across 49 games.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 273 pounds, he projected as a compact, high-effort edge and interior presence who could set the edge against the run.

He spent the offseason and training camp competing for a depth role on a Browns defensive line that has been in flux. On Aug. 30, Cleveland waived him as part of final 53-man roster cuts.

The team brought him back the next day on the practice squad, a common path for undrafted rookies who show enough in camp to stay in the building. That stay lasted barely a week.

On Sept. 7, the Browns signed former Georgia and Buffalo defensive tackle Zion Logue to the practice squad and released Sapp in a corresponding move. He was then placed on the practice squad/injured list before being released from that designation on Sept. 11.

The sequence is typical of September roster maintenance. Practice-squad spots are scarce, and clubs often prefer a veteran with game experience — Logue has appeared in five NFL games — over a rookie who never established himself on the depth chart.

Sapp had seen some first-team work early in camp because of injuries, but he did not force the issue enough to stick. For a first-year head coach in Todd Monken and a defensive front still being assembled, the preference was for size and familiarity over developmental upside at that particular spot.

Sapp remains a free agent and can sign with any team. At his age and with a productive SEC résumé, he is a candidate for another practice-squad look or a late-season call-up if injuries hit elsewhere.

Cleveland, meanwhile, continues to shuffle the bottom of the roster as it prepares for Week 1 at Jacksonville. The move itself is minor in the standings, but it closes the book on one of the more visible undrafted stories of Browns camp.

For Sapp, the next step is finding a new landing spot quickly.

For the Browns, it is another reminder that September is when depth charts stop being theoretical and start being transactional.
