Brutal stat shows Patrick Mahomes has no help in Chiefs’ offense

The Kansas City Chiefs finally got into the win column this season with a 22-9 victory over the New York Giants. While the offense did come alive in the fourth quarter and pull away for the win, the Chiefs’ offense looked abysmal for the other three quarters of that game.

While the quarterback tends to get most of the blame when things aren't going well offensively, Chiefs fans know that Patrick Mahomes does not deserve much of that blame. It's hard for him to do his job accurately when his wide receivers aren't doing theirs.

Advanced stats detail how bad things are for Mahomes when it comes to his wide receivers, as he's fifth in expected points added (or EPA, as the cool kids refer to it) lost due to wide receiver errors and drops. To anyone who watches this offense regularly, you won't be surprised to see that, but it's another stat proving that Mahomes' receivers are continuing to let him down.

Chiefs receivers are doing Patrick Mahomes zero favors with dropped passes

This stat proves that, even though he's the quarterback and deserves a fraction of the blame for sure, Mahomes isn't the problem offensively. He's missing two of his starting wideouts, while Rashee Rice has three more weeks of his suspension to serve and Xavier Worthy is dealing with an injury. Hopefully, Worthy returns soon, and we all know when Rice is returning, so that'll be huge having him back.

Chiefs fans are hoping that the offense looks competent once those guys return, but in the meantime, we have the stats telling the story here. Mahomes is trying his best to do his job and keep this offense going, but his wide receivers can't say the same thing. Everyone has to be better, and eliminating any dropped passes is a great start.
