The Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter Sunday’s matchup against the Atlanta Falcons with little room for error. At 2-5, Tampa Bay needs a win to keep its NFC South hopes alive.

Carolina’s Thursday night loss to the Green Bay Packers gives the Buccaneers another opportunity to gain ground. A victory over Atlanta would keep Tampa Bay within striking distance of the division lead. With the season hanging in the balance, getting key starters back could make a significant difference.

Fortunately, the Buccaneers appear to have received some welcome news ahead of kickoff. One of their most important offensive linemen is ready to return.

Luke Goedeke Is Active Against Atlanta

Right tackle Luke Goedeke is active for Sunday’s matchup against the Falcons. He’s been dealing with a calf injury that sidelined him against Carolina last week.

Goedeke also missed Wednesday and Thursday’s practices before returning to the field Friday. His availability provides a significant boost for an offensive line facing a dangerous Atlanta pass rush.

The Buccaneers relied on swing tackle Ben Chukwuma in Goedeke’s absence last week. With Goedeke back, Chukwuma can return to his reserve role while Goedeke protects the right side. All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs will continue anchoring the opposite side.

Goedeke’s Return Could Be Crucial Against Atlanta

Getting Goedeke back could prove especially important if Tampa Bay leans on its running game. Weather conditions could influence the offensive approach, making a physical performance up front even more valuable.

Atlanta presents a difficult challenge on the ground. The Falcons entered this matchup with one of the NFL’s strongest run defenses, ranking fourth in rushing yards allowed per game.

That puts additional pressure on running back Bucky Irving and the offensive line. Goedeke’s presence could help Irving find running lanes against a defense that has consistently limited opposing rushing attacks.

The Buccaneers need to control the clock, sustain drives and keep Atlanta’s offense on the sideline. Goedeke’s return gives them a better chance to accomplish those goals.

Atlanta is coming off an impressive victory over the San Francisco 49ers. If Tampa Bay wants to respond with a crucial divisional win, its offensive line will need to deliver from the opening drive.
