Buccaneers Injury Update: Mike Evans

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has missed several games due to a hamstring injury sustained in Week 3 against the New York Jets. He’s expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks. Evans, a six-time Pro Bowler and record-holder for 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career, had 14 receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown in three games before his injury.

The Buccaneers are managing to win despite missing Evans, thanks to the blossoming connection between quarterback Baker Mayfield and rookie wideout Emeka Egbuka. This emerging duo has reduced the urgency to rush Evans back onto the field.

The Buccaneers are rightfully taking a cautious approach with Evans’ hamstring injury, as rushing him back could lead to further complications and a longer absence. As for his progress,

Head Coach Todd Bowles provided an update:

“He’s coming along,” Bowles said. “I mean, he’s healing. I can’t tell you how fast or when, but he’s healing and he’s working trying to get back fast as he can.”

Evans is expected to miss at least Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers, with a potential return in Week 7 or Week 8, depending on his recovery pace. Given Evans’ history of hamstring issues, including missing three games in 2019 and 2022, and three games last season, the Buccaneers are likely prioritizing his full recovery to ensure he’s at 100% for a strong playoff push.
