The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered Sunday's home matchup against the New York Jets with high expectations. The Bucs have been clicking on all cylinders through their first two games, as quarterback Baker Mayfield and head coach Todd Bowles have led their team to a 2-0 record.
Mayfield has had help from his wide-receiving corps, especially star wideout Mike Evans. Evans is in his 12th season in the NFL, all of which have come with the Bucs. Through the first two games of the year, Evans has led the team in targets and receiving yards.
On Sunday, during the Bucs' game against the Jets, Evans left with a hamstring injury, and some disappointing news was announced.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Evans has been ruled out for the remainder of the game. He limped off the field to the locker room in the fourth quarter after suffering a non-contact injury.
Before leaving the game, Evans had caught four passes from Mayfield for 33 yards and his first touchdown catch of the season.
Heading into Week 3, Evans had 10 receptions for 107 yards through the Bucs' first two games of the year.
Evans has been a staple at the wide receiver position for the Bucs since being selected seventh overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has totaled over 1,000 yards passing in every season since entering the league and has been selected to six Pro Bowls.
Before Sunday's game, Evans had totaled 12,791 receiving yards and 105 touchdowns in his illustrious career.
If he is out for multiple weeks, it would be a big blow for the Bucs, who have relied on his pass-catching ability for over a decade.
