Bucs Sign Day 2 NFL Draft Pick
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

On Wednesday afternoon it was reported that the Bucs will be signing another one of their 2024 NFL Draft picks, announcing that outside linebacker and second-round pick Chris Braswell has put the pen to paper on his rookie deal.

Although full terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed in the announcement made by the team, Pewter Report’s Josh Quiepo did find out some information about some of his guaranteed money.

Chris Braswell Had A Productive College Career At Alabama

The profile on Chris Braswell as he enters the NFL is that he is a big-time hitter, a violent tackler, and an all-around physical force, and his college film asserts those claims.

Despite making just two starts for Alabama in 2023, Braswell had a big year for the Crimson Tide, tallying eight sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, two passes defended, and an interception. He is a plus athlete with the ability to bend the edge and use his hands well to get past offensive tackles and cause havoc.

Per PFF, Braswell had an 87.9 pass-rush grade with an 18.2% pass-rush win rate, while being credited with 10 QB hits and 33 hurries. As he looks to transfer his skill set to head coach Todd Bowles’ defense, he could find himself working into a large role as a rookie.

Bucs OLB Chris Braswell Could Be Primed For A Big Rookie Year

So far during the Bucs mandatory mini-camp, Chris Braswell has made a big first impression, including recording two would-be sacks during Tuesday’s session.

That has caught the eye of Todd Bowles, and it could be the beginning of Braswell staking his claim as the team’s No. 2 pass-rusher.

“When the shoulder pads come on, we’ll see, but he’s very tough, he’s very steady, he has a very strong lower body,” Bowles said on Tuesday. “He has semblances of Yaya [Diaby] from last year, as far as raw strength. We’ll see when the pads come on how that translates, but I like what I see so far.”

Tampa Bay liked him enough to make him their second-round pick, and now that hope is that he begins to make the most of that investment after officially signing with the Buccaneers. Locking up Chris Braswell it leaves just first-round pick Graham Barton as the only unsigned draft pick left.
