Caleb Douglas Makes History in Spectacular Dolphins Debut

Wide receiver Caleb Douglas’ NFL debut was highly anticipated by a lot of Miami Dolphins fans. After all, the last time the Dolphins used a pick so high on a wide receiver was Jaylen Waddle, and folks wanted to see if Douglas could parlay a strong training camp and preseason into a great game against the Raiders.

It’s safe to say Douglas delivered and then some. He looked like the Dolphins’ WR1 in the first regular-season game of his pro career, finishing with a whopping 94 receiving yards on a team-high five targets. What made his NFL debut so impressive is that he averaged almost 20 yards per reception.

It’s clear that he’s already developed great synergy with quarterback Malik Willis, and if it weren’t for Douglas, Miami would have mustered even fewer points than it did on Sunday. On a drive just before the end of the first half, he came up with multiple catches for huge gains and set the Dolphins up for a makeable field goal.

He was easily the Dolphins’ most impactful offensive player against Las Vegas, and one stat puts his stellar debut in a historical perspective. Douglas’ 94 receiving yards mark the most ever from a Dolphins rookie in their debut. That says a lot, considering all the great wideouts the team has drafted over the decades.

Douglas was the first of three wideouts the Dolphins drafted in the 2026 NFL Draft. Miami also picked Chris Bell — who finished with 25 yards receiving on one reception against the Raiders — with the No. 94 overall pick of round three and Kevin Coleman with the No. 177 overall pick of round five.

It will be hard for Douglas to top his debut performance, but he will hope to do just that when the Dolphins take on the 49ers in their Week 2 matchup on Sept. 20.
