The Tennessee Titans seem to be leaning toward selecting Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick in next month's NFL Draft. This choice may be a bit of kismet as Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice believes that Ward's game mirrors that of legendary Oilers and Titans quarterback Steve McNair.
"There's a couple of runaround plays where Ward is bouncing off tackles, ... I was like, 'I've seen this before,'" said Tice. "The play style, that sense of calmness, that toughness as a runner. ... McNair was always one of the best players I've ever seen at throwing on the move and I think Ward is very accomplished in that area as well."
Ward was an All-American this season for the Miami Hurricanes after leading Division I with 39 passing touchdowns. He also completed 67.2% of his passes for 4,313 yards and only tossed seven interceptions the whole year.
He is the consensus top quarterback in this year's draft class and based on Tennessee's offseason moves, it seems like the Titans will be taking him first overall. Unless the team makes a late push for a veteran like Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins, Ward should be under center for the Titans next season.
McNair was the NFL MVP in 2003 and led the team to the playoffs five times, including an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIV. If Ward can even be in the ballpark of McNair as a player, then Tennessee will not regret drafting him first overall.
