Cardinals Make Final RB Decision Ahead of NFL Season
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

After a disappointing few seasons and finally moving on from quarterback Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardinals are searching for a spark in yet another rebuilding year.

Many expected this spark to come from one of the Cardinals draft picks, specifically looking to the third overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, running back Jeremiyah Love.

Love was drafted out of Notre Dame after winning the 2025 Doak Walker Award for the best college running back.

The expectation for his immediate impact diminished after suffering a high ankle sprain during a preseason game. This injury may have led the Cardinals to list him as their RB2 instead of their RB1.

Taking the RB1 spot on their depth chart is Tyler Allgeier, who put up 514 yards with eight touchdowns for Arizona in 2025.

Allgeier had an excellent rookie campaign in 2022 with 1,035 yards, but has struggled to put up the same level of production since.

Love is also still expected to play during the Cardinals season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In his lone preseason appearance, Love put up 73 yards on 14 total touches.
