GLENDALE – The past four weeks for the Arizona Cardinals have been a rough one. The laundry list of injuries that the team has piled up in the short month span of the season is outrageous. Despite the heavy losses on defense, the unit has buckled down to become arguably top 10 in the NFL. Arizona has survived the injuries, and luckily, it looks like it will be getting reinforcements as rookie CB Will Johnson has returned to practice on Monday.

Johnson suffered a groin injury in the Cardinals Week 2 matchup vs. the Carolina Panthers. He has missed the subsequent two weeks, which the team lost both games. Despite his lack of experience, Johnson has quickly cemented himself as the team’s cornerback one. The 22-year-old has a PFF overall grade of 77.9, which is 13 out of 162 eligible cornerbacks.
Arizona’s secondary has struggled to contain opposing QBs, as the unit ranks 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed. The injury to Johnson and Garrett Williams hasn’t helped the cause, but it remains as one of the few holes on the defense.
If Johnson can return to the lineup, it’ll give the team some normalcy and much-needed aid in the secondary. The defense hasn’t suffered injuries left and right, but Johnson and others are starting to return to the lineup, which could finally unlock the units full potential for the rest of the season.
