Cardinals Take Cautious Approach With Carson Beck’s Rib Injury
USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect

Carson Beck remains day-to-day with a rib injury, and the Arizona Cardinals are giving the rookie quarterback more time to heal. Beck was a late scratch ahead of Thursday’s preseason game in Las Vegas despite practicing during the week. Head coach Mike LaFleur said the discomfort remains, though Arizona does not view the injury as a long-term concern.

Beck’s Latest Injury Update

Beck’s injury dates to the Hall of Fame Game. LaFleur said the Cardinals want to let Beck heal more before determining when he is ready to return.

LaFleur also said the team had no significant concern about Beck’s injury. He noted that rib discomfort can sometimes feel worse a few days after an injury. Arizona did not want to take an unnecessary risk during the preseason game against the Raiders.

In his preseason debut, Beck completed 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown. The Cardinals liked what they saw from the third-round pick in that appearance before the rib issue kept him out against Las Vegas.

Arizona has been cautious with injuries during the preseason, and Beck’s status fits that approach. The team will continue to monitor his progress during the week as it weighs his availability for the remaining exhibition games.

Beck has two remaining preseason opportunities, beginning with the Dallas Cowboys and followed by the finale against the Green Bay Packers . If he does not make significant progress, the Cardinals are unlikely to let him play Saturday night.

His availability could also factor into Arizona’s plans for veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew , who are unlikely to play against Green Bay in the finale. For now, Beck remains day-to-day as the Cardinals give his ribs more time to heal.
