Carolina Panthers rookie Nic Scourton suffering a collapsed lung in Thursday's joint practice against the Houston Texans. He's currently listed as week-to-week, according to ESPN's David Newton.

The edge rusher from Texas A&M was initially evaluated for heat-related symptoms following the session. But after being taken to a local Houston area hospital for observation, it was determined he had a collapsed lung.

Panthers coach Dave Canales revealed the news after Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Texans. The 20-year-old was reportedly taken to Memorial Hermann Medical Center before he was driven back to Charlotte and accompanied by an athletic trainer.

"It was a very physical play," Canales said. "It was presenting like a heat exhaustion, because he was having trouble breathing. He was getting tired and all that, so we kind of cooled him down we couldn't get him to respond good enough to where we felt comfortable about putting him back into practice."

The second-round pick had an impressive training camp so far, including a sack on Browns QB Shedeur Sanders in last week's preseason game.

"It's really week-to-week with those types of things,'' Canales said. "I've heard from trainers, from different coaches, where a guy played the next week. So we've got to be smart on that one and let you know where we're at once we get back to Charlotte.''

The Panthers round out the preseason with a home matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers next week.
