CB D.J. Reed discusses Aaron Rodgers joining Jets

New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed can't hide his excitement for quarterback Aaron Rodgers joining the organization this offseason.

"It’s a great energy around the building, especially when I came that first day," Reed said, per Bridget Hyland of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com. "It wasn’t just the players that I felt the energy from, I felt it from all the staff. Everybody was just happy and had a smile on their face ... one guy can do that."

Star cornerback Ahmad "Sauce" Gardner said last month that making the playoffs should be "easy" for the Rodgers-led Jets, and 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson acknowledged that expectations hovering over Gang Green went "up a little bit" after the club finalized the much-publicized trade with the Green Bay Packers. Reed admitted to feeling a little starstruck the first time he encountered Rodgers as a Jets player.

"Even when he came in the building, I’m like, 'Dang, that’s really A.R., he’s really a Jet,'" Reed explained. "It’s still kind of just surreal. It’s a crazy feeling knowing that we’ve got a Hall of Fame quarterback that’s going to be playing with us this year."

Rodgers quickly embraced life in the Big Apple. He attended New York Rangers and New York Knicks playoff games with new teammates this spring. Reed recalled how the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player went out of his way to ask the 26-year-old about his baby even though the men have only shared a roster for about one month.

"Which I thought was cool because I’m like, 'How do you know about that?' But he’s a smart guy, he be tuned in," Reed said.

Rodgers experienced a "tweaked" calf warming up on Tuesday but nevertheless spent the workout session shadowing offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and speaking with teammates. The 39-year-old is a polarizing figure among some fans and media members, but it's clear he's already quite popular inside the Jets locker room.
