CBS NFL analyst reportedly considering run for Congress

A well-known CBS NFL analyst could give up his job to run for Congress next year, according to a report.

Former NFL kicker Jay Feely is seriously considering a run for the House of Representatives in Arizona, according to Yvonne Wingett Sanchez of the Washington Post. Feely would run in Arizona’s 5th district, which will open up when incumbent Rep. Andy Biggs runs for Governor.

Feely is a supporter of President Donald Trump and has occasionally golfed with him, and would run as a Republican.

Feely has been a pro and college football analyst for CBS Sports since retiring from the NFL in 2015. As one might expect from a former kicker, he has carved out a niche as a special teams expert, and has been part of CBS’ coverage of multiple Super Bowls as a kicking analyst.

A number of sports figures have sought public office in recent years. Former college football coach Tommy Tuberville was elected to the U.S. Senate in Alabama in 2020, while former Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker unsuccessfully sought a Senate seat in Georgia in 2022.
