Quarterbacks are always a topic of conversation when it comes to preseason.

CBS Sports just dropped its preseason Quarterback rankings on the eve of the 2025 NFL season. This year, CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin has ranked Jalen Hurts as the fifth-best quarterback going into week one of the upcoming season.

1. Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
4. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
5. Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

"Does everyone know this guy just won Super Bowl MVP? Maybe it's his stoic persona that tones down the hype. No, he doesn't always play the prettiest brand of ball, but he's a never-say-die warrior in the clutch."

How should Eagles fans feel about Hurts making the top five?

Hurts' number five ranking may come as a surprise to many, but it may speak volumes to the level of quarterback play in the NFL this season.

Hurts is coming off a Super Bowl MVP honor, leading the Eagles to a rout of the Kansas City Chiefs for the franchise's second Lombardi trophy. Hurts put together a 2024 season in which, in 15 games, he led the team to a 12-3 record, accumulating 2,903 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, five interceptions, along with 630 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns.

Hurts continued his strong regular season play with 726 passing yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, adding 194 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in four postseason games. While Hurts' passing numbers may not be on the same level as those of Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, or Lamar Jackson, he has consistently managed the Eagles' offense, which has allowed him to own a record of 46-20 since he took over as Philadelphia's starter.

Hurts' ranking is slightly different from what his peers think of him during the NFL top-100 ranking. Hurts was voted the 19th-best player in the NFL and the sixth-best quarterback coming into 2025. Hurts in the NFL top 100 was behind Jared Goff (No. 15), Joe Burrow (No. 6), Patrick Mahomes (No. 5), Josh Allen (No. 3), and Lamar Jackson (No. 2).
