The Los Angeles Chargers are a piece or two away from what could be a Super Bowl-winning team if they can put it all together before the 2025 season.
Chargers franchise quarterback Justin Herbert saw some changes to his playmakers with the departure of Joshua Palmer to the Buffalo Bills. They also brought in a familiar face with Mike Williams returning to the team. Los Angeles used the NFL Draft to select Tre Harris to give Herbert another deep threat to join Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston.
While McConkey is well on his way to being a number one receiver, the Chargers have questions about whether Johnston can stay consistent and whether Harris can develop into a starter. If Los Angeles wants to win now, there is one call that needs to be made to facilitate a game-changing trade.
ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio wrote about which teams could call the Miami Dolphins about wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Florio named the Chargers as one of the contenders who should consider it.
"The contenders that should at least ponder whether Hill can help get them over the top include the Ravens, Texans, Chargers, and 49ers. (The Bills should think about it, too. However, the Dolphins may not be interested in helping Buffalo get back to a Super Bowl.)"
Hill is a home run hitter who has dominated throughout his NFL career. Last season marked the first time in his nine-year career that he failed to make the Pro Bowl. He has posted six 1,000-yard seasons, with 2023 being his best as he led the NFL in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13).
Herbert's receiving groups throughout his young career have been inconsistent at best. McConkey has given him the most hope in being able to establish a number one receiver.
Hill would instantly come in and be a number one target, and give Herbert a chance to show off his strong arm. The speed of Hill is something the Chargers have not seen at wide receiver and would make it crazy to not at least make a call.
At 31, it does make the trade compensation an interesting talking point, as if the Dolphins were to ask for a first-round pick, it's unlikely they would get it, and the Chargers should bow out. A second or third round pick might be enticing enough for Los Angeles to use Hill for two more years before his contract ends in 2026.
The Chargers need a spark on offense to change the game. Hill is the guy who can turn a good offense into an elite one.
