Chargers QB Justin Herbert Sends Shocking Message to Critics of His Playoff Struggles

Since Justin Herbert played his first NFL game back in 2020, he has been considered one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league.

He nearly outdueled Kansas City Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes and from that day was consistently mentioned among the top five players at his position.

The one knock on Herbert’s career has been his lack of success, but early on he was so much better than the pieces around him that the shortcomings were excused.

Now that the Los Angeles Chargers are manned by head coach Jim Harbaugh and loaded with talent at skill positions, it’s time for the former Oregon Ducks star to step up.

Herbert played his first playoff game a few years ago against the Jacksonville Jaguars and despite playing relatively well, the Chargers squandered a 27-point lead.

This past season, in a year where the former Offensive Rookie of the Year had the best touchdown to interception ratio in NFL history, he got another crack at the playoffs and threw four interceptions in an embarrassing loss.

The pressure that has been mounting up for years seems to have reached a boiling point and Herbert is finally addressing the critics.

He spoke with the media and shockingly downplayed his playoff struggles, saying, “Obviously it didn’t go the way we wanted it to, like I said at the end of the year, but you gotta move on.”

There have been more tone-deaf comments made by players in the past, but it isn't something you expect to hear from a player of Herbert’s caliber.

It is more productive for some players to move on instead of dwelling on a loss, but this statement comes off as incredibly nonchalant.

Herbert makes it sound as if there is no true credibility to the criticisms or that they aren’t very important.

Playoff games and moments are what build, break and define legacies, but Herbert doesn’t sound like he cares about that much at all.

For a franchise that has been tortured as much as the Chargers, this is the last thing they want to hear from their starting quarterback.
