The Los Angeles Chargers found a ton of success in year one of Jim Harbaugh's tenure, clinching a spot in the playoffs. While the Chargers were bounced in the wild-card round, there are a lot of reasons for optimism entering year two.
Los Angeles still has star quarterback Justin Herbert leading the charge, and he has a plethora of offensive weapons to throw the ball to. But there is one player whom the team may want to reconsider.
That would be former first-round wide reciever Quentin Johnston, who hasn't lived up to the hype that he entered the NFL with. It's not fair to call Johnston a bust, but he simply hasn't performed well enough for this Chargers team.
With the Chargers bringing back veteran Keenan Allen, Johnston could become expendable to this team. NFL writer Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report is urging the team to move on from the former TCU product.
"If Johnston does appear to be trending toward a backup role, the Chargers should make him available while he still has some trade value. L.A. isn't going to recoup its first-round pick, but a former first-round pick on a rookie contract would generate interest," wrote Knox.
Last season, Johnston put up 55 catches for 711 yards and eight touchdowns. It was a big improvement from his rookie season, but the Chargers still need more from him.
Los Angeles has brought in multiple other players at the position, which has pushed Johnston down the depth chart. The Chargers are firmly set on going after a Super Bowl title, and they can't afford to be overly patient with Johnston.
2025 will be a massive season for the wide receiver, and if he can't show even more development, he could be sent out of Los Angeles.
