Chicago Bears right tackle Darnell Wright is thankful that a new coaching staff came on the scene to help him before an important contract year in 2025.

On Tuesday, Wright signed a four-year $116 million contract extension.

When speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Wright praised Bears offensive line coach Dan Roushar Jr. for teaching him how to play offensive line the right way, unlike some of his coaches in the past.

“I think first, he’s consistent every day in what he does and what he says,” Wright said. “He’s consistent in what he’s telling you. He’s honest and he’s not, you know, some coaches I’ve had in the past or some coaches in the league, you know, they’re not very good teachers.

“They see a guy with talent and blah, blah, blah, but they can’t really convey what it is and teach you. You still need to be taught. So I think he is such a good teacher and he does it with such good, he’s not yelling at you, he’s not screaming at you, he’s not demeaning you, he’s telling you what’s good about the rep and he’s telling you what’s bad about the rep so you can see both sides.”

The “some coaches in the league” seems to be an obvious reference to a former offensive line coach on the Bears. Chris Morgan was former head coach Matt Eberflus’ offensive line coach, and worked with Wright when he first came into the league as a first-round pick in 2023. Morgan is now the offensive line coach in Denver.

Wright appreciates Roushar explains what is good and bad about a rep, allowing him to fix just the issues that need addressing.

“Instead of maybe if you have a coach that tells you just what you did was wrong with the rep so maybe the next rep, you just change everything,” Wright said.

“Now, you have a different result and you have no consistency to stack on top of each other whereas Dan he shows you what you did good with the rep so you can, you know, keep doing the good things and fix the bad things he tells you. I think that’s the biggest thing.”

With a new coaching staff, Wright has been doing more of the good than bad.
