Chicago Bears react to big Montez Sweat news
Chicago Bears defensive end Montez Sweat (98) takes the field before the game against the New Orleans Saints at Soldier Field.

Montez Sweat has established himself as one of the better defensive ends in the NFL. He is coming off an impressive 2025 season with the Chicago Bears.

The pass rusher appeared and started in all 17 of the team’s regular-season games. He recorded 53 combined tackles consisting of 36 solo efforts and 17 assisted, along with 10.0 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Sweat continues to repay Chicago’s trust after the team traded for him in 2024 from the Washington Commanders.

He’ll look to remain a key cog of the Bears’ defense as they face a tough schedule in 2026. Sweat and the rest of the unit will be crucial to the franchise’s success after they won the NFC North and reached the Divisional Round last season.

Chicago Bears congratulates Montez Sweat for huge honor

Sweat’s performances last year earned him a spot in the NFL’s Top 100 players for next season. The 29-year-old was ranked at No. 91 and Chicago shared the news on its X account. The team also congratulated him on the honor.

“Congrats Tez

,” the Bears wrote.

Chicago bolstered its roster on both ends of the football this offseason. It added safety Coby Bryant to strengthen the defensive end corps. The team also signed former Browns linebacker Devin Bush, along with acquiring ex-New England Patriots center Garrett Bradbury.

The Bears face the toughest schedule in 2026, but they revamped their roster with key additions in free agency and the draft. They are in a position to continue proving their doubters wrong by following up their 2025 run with an even stronger one.

While the team will rely heavily on Caleb Williams’ leadership, Sweat’s defensive prowess is arguably equally important. The offense compensated for the defense last year. However, things could change with a more motivated Sweat ready to show that he’s worthy of his No. 91 ranking.
