The Chicago Bears have been ultra-aggressive in trying to bring back injured players before they’re fully healed.
It cost them on Sunday.
Cornerback Jaylon Johnson had to miss several weeks on injured reserve after he re-aggravated his groin injury in the Bears’ Week 2 loss to the Detroit Lions.
On Sunday, the Bears made Rome Odunze active to play the Cleveland Browns, but ruled the wide receiver out with a foot injury minutes before the game started after he re-aggravated the issue during warmups.
Following the Bears’ 31-3 win over the Browns, head coach Ben Johnson claimed he had no new information on Odunze, saying he was too busy trying to get the next man ready to help the team get a victory.
On Monday, Johnson had sour news for the second-year player, suggesting Odunze could be headed to injured reserve.
Via Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times:
“Bears coach Ben Johnson says with WR Rome Odunze (foot), ‘All options are on the table.’ That’s discouraging, but he avoided saying anything definitive.”

The Bears did see good play out of rookie wide receiver Luther Burden III and veteran receiver DJ Moore against the Browns. Burden led Chicago in receiving with 84 yards on six receptions. Moore caught four passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Losing Odunze would not be ideal for the Bears, in first place in the NFC North with a 10-4 record before hosting the 9-4-1 Green Bay Packers in Week 16.
Odunze is still the Bears leading receiver with 44 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns.
