The Chicago Bears had good news on Thursday when wide receiver Rome Odunze returned to practice after missing earlier in the week due to a calf injury.
Odunze was limited in practice all week, leading to questions about his availability for Week 1 when the Bears travel to play the Carolina Panthers.
Per the final injury report for Week 1, Odunze was listed as questionable to play against Carolina. Left tackle Ozzy Trapilo was listed as questionable to play after being limited in practice Friday as he recovers from a knee injury. Safety
Xavier Woods, who was added to the injury report on Thursday with a groin injury, was limited in practice on Friday and is questionable. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent was a non-participant all week and is questionable due to a back injury.
Following practice, Odunze appeared to question the final injury report, telling reporters he was set to play the Panthers.
“I doubt I’m questionable,” Odunze said, via video posted to X by Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun Times. “I plan on playing.”
Before the season, Odunze told reporters he was looking to improve his play. The No. 9 pick in the 2024 draft believes he can be better at making defenders miss in the open field.
“I feel like my route running is up there, but I have a few nicks and knacks that I can clear up and make even better,” he said, via the Bears. “Yards after catch. Run after catch is definitely something I’m looking to improve on as well.
“I’m watching Luther’s (Burden) tape, looking at how he’s making defenders miss, trying to do some of that, as well as Swift. All around, I feel like I can improve and just be one of the best in the league.”
It’s a pivotal year for Odunze, who will be eligible for a new deal as soon as the regular season ends.
