The Bears entered the game shorthanded at wide receiver with Rome Odunze battling a foot injury and Olamide Zaccheaus ruled out with an illness. Chicago receiver DJ Moore was placed on the injured reserve Sunday with an illness designation, but played on “Sunday Night Football.”
However, Moore didn’t make a major impact in the Bears’ 42-38 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He looked noticeably fatigued, catching just one pass for seven yards.
Burden led the Bears in receiving with eight receptions for 138 yards and one touchdown. The rookie suffered an injury on the final play of the game.
Chicago head coach Ben Johnson didn’t have an update on Burden after the contest. The receiver was reported carted into the locker room and underwent X-rays.
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Burden sustained a quad injury. Chicago does not believe the injury is serious.
“Bears WR Luther Burden, who was carted off the field after Sunday night’s game, suffered a quad injury that is not thought to be serious,” Schefter posted on X. “He will undergo additional testing today.”Bears WR Luther Burden, who was carted off the field after Sunday night’s game, suffered a quad injury that is not thought to be serious. Burden is the Bears’ third-leading receiver with 617 yards and two touchdowns on 44 receptions. The second-round pick has found his stride in December, recording 18 receptions for 289 yards and one touchdown through the three games he played in the month.
(Burden missed the Bears’ win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 with an ankle issue.)
It remains to be seen if Chicago will start Burden against the Detroit Lions in Week 18 or rest him for the postseason.
