Chiefs botched one of the easiest interceptions ever

The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense had an interception served to them on a silver platter, but inexplicably dropped it into the garbage disposal.

The Chiefs led the Jacksonville Jaguars 14-0 midway through the second quarter at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. Facing 1st-and-10 at Kansas City’s 34, quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw a deep ball to wide receiver Tim Patrick.

Lawrence’s throw was well off target. Patrick could only deflect it with his right hand toward a crowd of Chiefs defenders. The ball ricocheted off cornerback Trent McDuffie’s chest and gently fluttered into the air. But the gift-wrapped interception somehow hit the grass.

The play was so easy a five-year-old could have made it. But just like a couple of toddlers, linebackers Nick Bolton and Drue Tranquill collided to prevent each other from making the play.
