Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs continue to build toward the 2026 season as training camp enters its second week. After missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade in 2025, the Chiefs enter this season with expectations of returning to AFC contention.
A healthy Mahomes remains central to those plans. The two-time league MVP has now completed multiple practices without any setbacks as he works his way back from the ACL and LCL injuries he suffered late last season.
He has gradually increased his workload in camp and has continued testing the knee, including moving outside the pocket and throwing on the run.
Mahomes has repeatedly said he wants to be ready for Week 1, though the Chiefs have not officially confirmed his availability for the Sept. 14 opener against the Denver Broncos.
Chiefs passing game coordinator Joe Bleymaier offered another update on Tuesday.
“He’s always pushing the limits… I haven’t seen anything with the knee out there on the field that would suggest any sort of hangover or setback,” Bleymaier said, via A to Z Sports’ Charles Goldman.

The Chiefs have not announced whether Mahomes will play during the preseason.
Kansas City’s preseason schedule begins Aug. 15 against the Los Angeles Rams, followed by games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Aug. 22 and the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 28.
The regular season begins on Sept. 14, when the Chiefs host the Broncos on “Monday Night Football” at Arrowhead Stadium. If Mahomes continues progressing without setbacks, all signs point toward him being under center for that opener.
