The Kansas City Chiefs need more offensive weapons to support quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the latest mock draft gives them a potential game-changing talent. After entering the season with Super Bowl aspirations, the Kansas City Chiefs finished the season with a 6-11 record and the ninth-overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. While the season was hard to watch, the silver lining is that the team has a chance to select an elite talent in the upcoming class of prospects.
Bleacher Report‘s Blent Sobleski recently released a full first-round mock draft, and the NFL analyst believes the Chiefs will select Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson with the ninth-overall pick.
“As long as Patrick Mahomes is at quarterback, the Kansas City Chiefs can compete at the highest level. Right now, he isn’t healthy, and the team is coming off its worst season since he took over the offense,” Sobleski writes. “…Arizona State’s Jordyn Tyson can be a dominant NFL wide receiver, as long as he remains healthy after suffering multiple collegiate injuries.”
As alluded to above, Jordyn Tyson is one of the riskiest players in the top 10, but his upside is through the roof. Appearing in nine games last year, the Arizona State product finished the season with 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns. One year earlier, he appeared in 12 games while recording 75 receptions for 1,101 yards and 10 touchdowns. He knows how to make plays on the field, and he has the physical ability to translate these skills to the next level.
Tyson is a versatile player, capable of lining up throughout the formation and running a full route tree. He excels at creating separation and should be a perfect fit for head coach Andy Reid and his creative offensive mind. If he stays healthy, he should develop into a dominant player in this scheme.
Of course, that is a big ‘if’. The wide receiver tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL in 2022, missed most of 2023 while recovering from said injury, broke his collarbone in 2024, and has also battled hamstring injuries throughout his collegiate tenure. Football is a physical game, and injuries patterns aren’t always the easiest to predict. However, suffering this many injuries in such a short time is worrisome, and Tyson’s draft stock could plummet during medical evaluations at the NFL Combine.
For the sake of argument, let’s assume Sobleski’s mock draft is correct and Jordyn Tyson becomes the next member of the Kansas City Chiefs. While there are worse groups of wide receivers out there, it’s safe to say that Tyson has a clear path to the field. Rashee Rice is the unquestioned top option in this passing attack, but Tyson should be able to overtake first-round pick Xavier Worthy.
Seeing as Patrick Mahomes is returning from a torn ACL, Kansas City should prioritize finding players who can get open quickly and reduce the amount of hits their quarterback needs to take. Jordyn Tyson excels at this, and he’d be a great fit for this offense if the Chiefs believe his injury history is nothing to worry about.
