Chiefs have ‘more questions’ than Patrick Mahomes’ health

Nick Wright expressed confidence in Patrick Mahomes’ form as the star quarterback gears up for the Kansas City Chiefs’ 2026 campaign.

Mahomes is preparing for the 10th season of his career in the league with the Chiefs. He has enjoyed incredible campaigns that saw him win three Super Bowl titles and two MVP awards, building his case as one of the best quarterbacks of all time.

However, the second half of the 2025 campaign cut his run in abrupt fashion. He tore his ACL and LCL as he missed the remainder of the season, rehabbing throughout the past couple of months.

Wright appeared on a new episode of First Things First on Monday. One of the topics he and the panel discussed was about Mahomes ahead of Week 1, where the sports analyst believes in the star quarterback having a strong comeback season.

“I think [the Chiefs are] gonna have the healthier quarterback Week 1. Patrick didn’t have any setbacks. Patrick didn’t have any additional surgeries… I think Patrick is gonna rip it,” Wright said.

“My confidence level in the Chiefs is directly correlated not to the sophistication of their offensive scheme, not to the achievement history of their wide receivers. It is about that. Assuming you have Patrick and Andy [Reid] there, their offensive line and their defensive line. Are you going to have your as expected fully healthy five offensive linemen and are you going to be able to get your defense off the field on third down by getting to the opposing quarterback.”
