The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up their final training camp practice at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri, ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid kicked things off with his final training camp press conference by thanking the military for their service on the team's "Military Appreciation Day." He then ruled out three injured players for the upcoming preseason Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks and updated everyone on a new injury.

"So anyways, the guys who didn't practice today (Jake) Briningstool (Hamstring), and he'll be out," Reid said. "Marquise (Hollywood Brown) will be out. (Ethan) Driskell will be out. Kareem (Hunt) got a quad contusion. I'm just going to see about him.

Hunt's injury absence in part explains why the Chiefs signed RB Michael Wiley with their final spot on the 90-man offseason roster. In addition to the injury situation, Reid revealed that he's heavily weighing a major departure from the norm when it comes to preseason playing time for his starting lineup.

Andy Reid is considering sitting many of the Kansas City Chiefs' starters against the Seattle Seahawks

Typically, Chiefs HC Andy Reid gives his offense a series in preseason Week 1 before working their way up to a full quarter of play in preseason Week 2. Things actually might be different this time around for Kansas City.

"I'm still kind of figuring out who's going to play, not play, that whole deal," Reid told reporters on Wednesday. "So, there's a chance, I sit a couple of starters, or at least be short with them. We want to make sure we get a good look at these young guys, so we'll just see how it all rolls going forward."

Asked specifically about starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes and whether he'd play, Reid indicated he was leaning toward resting him.

"There's a good chance he doesn't (play)," Reid said of Mahomes' chances to play. "But we'll see how it goes."

Mahomes had his own response to the possibility that he might not play this Friday.

Reid indicated there's a chance that starters could get some time in the third preseason game, which would also be a departure from the norm. It has traditionally been a game where the starters sit and those on the roster bubble compete to make one final impression. Ultimately, this decision seems to be about getting more repetitions for a young roster that is highly competitive for the final few spaces.

"I thought this was very productive," Reid said of training camp. "I want to see this game. I want to get the young guys some good reps in this game. And you want to make sure you give Brett (Veach) and the coaches enough to evaluate. So we'll try to get that done."

It's worth noting that Chiefs assistant GM Mike Bradway said about the 90-man roster on Tuesday.

"I think this is a year where there's gonna be a lot of tough conversations, you know at multiple spots," Bradway said. "It's not gonna be easy. There's gonna be players, unfortunately, we release that are NFL players and are going to be playing for other teams."

Knowing the level of competition and that good players will be cut, the front office and coaching staff must gather sufficient information to evaluate and select the right 53 players for the roster.
