Chiefs make Patrick Mahomes decision ahead of second preseason game

Under Andy Reid's command, the Kansas City Chiefs usually give their starters at least a full quarter of play in the second week of preseason. That might not be the case this time.

In his Wednesday media availability, the future Hall of Fame coach all but ruled out Patrick Mahomes from Saturday's contest against the Seattle Seahawks.

"There’s a good chance he doesn’t (play)," Reid said, per A to Z Sports' Charles Goldman. "But we’ll see how it goes."

Reid will take that same approach with most of his starters, with Marquise "Hollywood" Brown and Ethan Driskell also being ruled out.

"I’m still kind of figuring out who’s going to play, not play, that whole deal," Reid said. "So, there’s a chance, I sit a couple of starters, or at least be short with them. We want to make sure we get a good look at these young guys, so we’ll just see how it all rolls going forward."

The Chiefs will run it back with virtually the same core of players, so it's not like they all need these reps to get into game shape.

This team is back to being the hunter instead of the hunted, and while some might feel like it already peaked and won't get back to its dominant ways, everybody should know better than to sleep on Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.

They have a big chip on their shoulders, and even if they don't play in the preseason, they will be more than ready when it counts.
