The Kansas City Chiefs only lost two regular season games a season ago and one of those losses came when they rested most of their starters. En route to a 15-2 record, the Chiefs managed to squeak by in the majority of their games and it became a tale as old as time.
Somehow, even with so many Chiefs games coming down to the wire, they're still ranked in the bottom three of ESPN's Ben Solak's most watchable teams. Solak put the Chiefs 30th (so third lea st-watchable), only placing the Saints and Browns below them.
It's so strange to see a team quarterbacked by Patrick Mahomes being ranked so far down on a list like this but Solak noted that "ranked 28th in explosive pass rate and 30th in explosive rush rate". Essentially, he docked them points due to a lack of explosive plays. For what it's worth, he did say that there's hope for them to be more entertaining in 2025.
"Even Patrick Mahomes' magic was not enough to make those games enjoyable to view. But this season should be better if Rashee Rice is back to full strength after his suspension. If Xavier Worthy takes the next step as a deep threat. If Marquise Brown is healthy. And if Travis Kelce can turn back the clock and recover some explosiveness. Just four big "ifs" for the Chiefs to be watchable again."
Truth fully, Chiefs fans won't care about this very much because, at the end of the day, the team continues to push for Super Bowl titles and isn't that what this whole thing is about? The Chiefs are in that conversation every single year and Mahomes is a huge part of that.
Sure, the K.C. offense didn't put together a ton of explosive plays in 2024 but nearly every game came down to to the wire. Shouldn't that count for something? Unfortunately, you know when you turn on a Chiefs game that it's not going to be a blowout (at least not favoring them). The game is going to come down to the final minute or two and more often than not, the Chiefs are going to find a way to come out of the game with a W.
I guess last second victories aren't exciting anymore though. To each their own, I suppose.
