Look, I’ve covered enough NFL seasons to know when a team is circling the drain, and the Browns aren’t just circling: they’re doing synchronized swimming moves on their way down. After watching this franchise stumble through another catastrophic 3-14 campaign in 2024, oddsmakers have set their 2025 win total at a measly 4.5 games. The kicker? They’re still favored to go OVER that pathetic number, and it makes sense.
Remember when the Browns shocked everyone with 11 wins in 2023? Yeah, those days feel like a fever dream now. That magical season was built on the back of a defense that ranked second in DVOA while facing the seventh-toughest slate of opposing offenses. It was impressive, sure, but it was also fool’s gold. Sort of like that Deshaun Watson contract, enjoy that awful contract.
Fast forward to 2024, and reality came crashing down like a house of cards in a hurricane. The defense that once carried this team? It nosedived to 25th in defensive DVOA despite facing similar competition. The offense? Don’t even get me started, they posted the worst offensive DVOA since the Cardinals’ historically awful 2018 campaign.
The Browns are staring down the barrel of what might be the most punishing schedule in the NFL. Based on their opponents’ projected offensive strength, Cleveland faces the toughest collection of offenses in the league. We’re talking about a gauntlet where 13 of their 16 games come against teams with win totals set at 8.5 or higher. Think about that for a moment. This is a team that managed just three wins last season, and now they’re expected to navigate through a brutal schedule.
Cleveland entered 2025 with so many QBs, and none of them is the answer. That’s not depth, that’s chaos with a uniform on. When your quarterback situation resembles a game of musical chairs, you know you’re in for a rough ride.
The franchise managed to make Jameis Winston look pedestrian, and now they’re hoping Tommy Rees can work miracles as their new offensive coordinator. Rees inherits an offense that couldn’t score if you spotted them 14 points and a GPS to the end zone. Joe Flacco is the starter. But don’t be shocked if Shedeur Sanders or Dillion Gabriel start a chunk of games. At least they got rid of Kenny Pickett via trade, there is that. Plus, David Njoku and Jerry Jeudy are on offense; those two are a great receiver/TE duo to throw to.
After publicly requesting a trade, Myles Garrett ultimately decided to stick around Cleveland. While that’s great news for the defense, one elite pass rusher can’t mask the systemic issues plaguing this organization, but keeping him is tremendous with his leadership skills. The Browns have managed to build a roster that makes even their best players look ordinary.
With Cleveland sitting at -140 to hit the over on 4.5 wins, the smart money is on the under at +120. This is a franchise that has perfected the art of disappointment, and 2025 looks like another masterclass in mediocrity. However, there is potential to get over the 4.5 win total, and knowing the Steelers & Ravens, they will play down to the competition against the Browns. This is a 5-7 win, and taking the over makes sense, but this is a no bet for many.
