Colts' Anthony Richardson finally gets potential trade update

The Indianapolis Colts sent a clear message when they gave Daniel Jones a two-year, $88 million deal this offseason.

They're ready to move on from Anthony Richardson after a tumultuous start to his career, though they won't simply give him away.

Richardson hasn't done much to help his case in limited preseason action, but his youth and physical traits make him an intriguing pickup.

According to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, multiple teams have already inquired about his availability ahead of roster-cut day.

Anthony Richardson might finally be on the move

"Could see multiple QBs on the move in the next few weeks. Tua (Tagovailoa), (Dillon) Gabriel, (J.J.) McCarthy, Richardson," Allbright shared on X. "All have had calls placed on them to varying degrees of interest."

Richardson openly requested a trade, and the Colts are giving him opportunities to endear himself to other teams.

That said, they've also had him alternate with Riley Leonard to determine whether they can actually use him.

When asked about their plans for the QB room, Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds had a rather blunt take on Richardson's chances of sticking around:

“I think you take care of your own team first. We want to have three (QBs) that can play,” Dodds said (h/t James Boyd). “So, if he’s one of them, he’s gonna be here.”

Multiple teams should be interested in one of the most athletic and physically gifted quarterback prospects in NFL history, even with the injury and accuracy concerns.

Still, whoever takes a chance on him will have to know he's a long-term project, and it might be a long while before this investment pays off — if ever.
