The Indianapolis Colts are not celebrating victory Monday for the first time this season, as they suffered their first loss of the year in Week 4 on the road against the Los Angeles Rams. In this matchup, the Colts' flaws were exposed, but more than anything, they shot themselves in the foot too many times to overcome. And now Colts star safety Cam Bynum shared a fact about one of their worst plays of the day that somehow makes it even worse.
FS Cam Bynum on the #Colts only having 10 defenders on the field for the #Rams’ game-winning TD:

“You get off the field after and you ask like, ‘Hey, what happened?’ … Obviously that’s something that just can’t happen from top to bottom, us as players … but also for coaching.” https://t.co/vKx2C8Bou0 pic.twitter.com/lOzVWMusNe
Late in the game, the Rams regained possession of the ball with the game tied at 20. The Colts were able to pin the Rams deep at the 12-yard line, forcing QB Matthew Stafford and their offense to now need 88 yards to find the endzone. A task that sounds difficult was made to look easy when the Rams picked up all 88 yards on one play on a deep ball to Tutu Atwell on first down.
It was a jaw-dropping moment where hope for a Week 4 win among Colts fans seemed to disappear completely. The instant thought was who messed up for Atwell to end up so wide open. The replay made it clear CB Mehki Blackmon fell on the play, leaving safety Bynum in an impossible situation to try and make up for it. Shockingly, that wasn't even the biggest mistake made by the team on that play, though.
Bynum shared that the Colts only had 10 players on the field for that play post-game. So even after Blackmon fell, another player was meant to be there on the back end that could have prevented them from giving up a touchdown as a result. That type of mistake happening in the late stages of a tie game is simply unacceptable, and you can hear in Bynum's words that he agrees wholeheartedly.
"We were looking around and something looked off," shared Bynum, "10 vs 11 people is a loss every time." Bynum shared that this is an unacceptable mistake by the team, both the player and the coaches. This is just another example of how the Colts truly lost this game more than the Rams won it. The Colts will get the chance to get back on track in Week 5 when they host the Las Vegas Raiders. An opportunity to go 4-1 through the first five is on the line, and a win would cure a lot of the negative feelings the locker room and the fan base feel about losing in Week 4.
