Commanders Bolster Receiving Room in 2027 Mock Draft

After a trip to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, Commanders fans thought their days of consistently picking in the top 10 and middle rounds were behind them with Jayden Daniels at the helm of the offense.

Unfortunately, everything that could go wrong in 2025 did, landing them once again in the top 10. After their joint practice against the Ravens on Wednesday, Jeremy Reaves said the team was playing like a group that could “win five games.” If that’s the case throughout the season, Washington would position itself for its fourth top-10 pick since 2020.

Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling predicts Washington will use its ninth overall pick in 2027 on Indiana wide receiver Charlie Becker. A reliable No. 2 receiver for Fernando Mendoza during Indiana’s national championship run, Becker could become another consistent option for Jayden Daniels in the future.

Who is Charlie Becker?

Appearing in 16 games last year, Becker racked up 679 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 20 yards per catch on 34 receptions. Leading the Big Ten in yards per catch, Becker displayed great maturity as a route-runner, with many sharp cuts on curl routes creating separation from defenders.

Listed at 6-foot-4, 207 pounds, Becker has the size needed to compete with top-tier cornerbacks and safeties in jump-ball situations down the field. During last year’s Peach Bowl, Becker hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass from Mendoza, using his size to tower over the defender and secure the ball just past the goal line.

How would he fit into Washington’s system?

Signing Stefon Diggs to be the No. 2 option in Washington was a great short-term move, but it does little to set the team up for success down the road . Third-round pick Antonio Williams has been improving by leaps and bounds throughout the preseason and training camp, but Washington will need more help on the outside once McLaurin retires.

Luke McCaffrey and Jaylin Lane have done a phenomenal job on special teams and in their limited roles on offense, but neither possesses the high-level skill set needed to see the field more often.

A combination of McLaurin, Williams and Becker would give Jayden Daniels all the tools he needs in a standard 11 personnel set featuring three wide receivers. With McLaurin on the outside, Williams in the slot and Becker lined up on the opposite side, this could be a receiving corps with enough size and speed to compete with anyone in the league.
