Commanders bring back player they drafted in 2017

The Washington Commanders held their first practice in full pads in training camp on Monday at BigBear.ai Performance Center. It should set the tone leading up to their preseason schedule, which will begin on August 14 against the Miami Dolphins.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn will try to further assimilate the new faces into the system, including running backs Rachaad White and Jerome Ford, defensive ends Odafe Oweh and K’Lavon Chaisson, tight end Chig Okonkwo, cornerback Amik Robertson, and defensive tackle Tim Settle Jr. There are also the rookies, linebacker Sunny Styles and wide receiver Antonio Williams.

On Monday, Washington made another addition, as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Longtime fans of the Commanders should be quite familiar with him.

“Veteran CB (cornerback) Fabian Moreau is returning to Washington, signing with the Commanders, who drafted him in 2017, source says. A double reunion for Moreau, who was with DC (defensive coordinator) Daronte Jones with the Vikings last year,” wrote Garafolo on X.

Last season, the 32-year-old Moreau appeared in 11 games for the Minnesota Vikings. He logged 17 total tackles and two passes defended. He spent the last two years in Minnesota.

Washington picked Moreau at No. 81 in 2017. He was a productive member of the defense during his four-year stint. He signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021 and proceeded to have stints with the Houston Texans, the New York Giants, and the Denver Broncos.

Quinn has stated that he wants to see competition in training camp. Surely, Moreau will fight for his spot. He could be a diamond in the rough for the Commanders.
