Commanders' dominant rivalry win just set Brian Daboll’s hot seat ablaze

The Washington Commanders aren't in the business of sentiment. And certainly, not when it comes to their rivals within the NFC East.

Several shrewd pundits thought the New York Giants would give the Commanders a real fright in their Week 1 showdown at Northwest Stadium. The Commanders didn't let that happen, completely controlling proceedings en route to a convincing victory to begin the campaign.

Something that one NFL analyst believes has already set Giants head coach Brian Daboll's hot seat ablaze.

Brian Daboll taking severe heat after Commanders secure easy Week 1 victory

This wasn't the start Daboll had in mind. He's under enormous pressure to turn the tide in his fourth season, but this demoralizing loss proved just how bleak his future might be if the same trend continues.

Ralph Vacchiano from FOX Sports agrees. He thought the Commanders exposed the frustrating flaws that continue to hold the G-Me back. Unless improvements are made, and quickly, the insider suggested that Daboll might not last the season.

The Giants had just 231 yards in the game and didn’t get into the end zone. [Russell] Wilson was a very unimpressive 17-of-37 for 168 yards, while running eight times for a team-high 44 yards. He had no chemistry with No. 1 receiver Malik Nabers, who caught 5 of 12 targets for 71 yards. The Giants’ running backs ran 15 times for 30 yards. In Year 4 of [Brian] Daboll, with an 18-33-1 record and coming off a 3-14 season, they are out of excuses, and so is he. If he can’t fix this offense soon, he might not make it to the end of the year.Ralph Vacchiano

Commanders fans can only laugh. After all, it wasn't that long ago they were the dysfunctional team with no real hope for the future under a lame-duck head coach. That's all changed now, and the Giants felt the full force of this new era of prosperity.

Dan Quinn is now 3-0 against the Giants since taking charge. Momentum has swung in the Commanders' favor in this particular division rivalry. And looking at the current state of both franchises, that doesn't look like it's changing anytime soon.

Daboll's future isn't the Commanders' concern. The Giants were just a small bump in their road to another deep playoff run. If giving them another beatdown despite not firing on all cylinders was all it took for the pressure to grow, that's their problem.

The Commanders have bigger fish to fry. As for Daboll? He's got to pick himself and his players off the canvas quickly.

Otherwise, it's not hard to predict what comes next.
