The Washington Commanders haven't started the 2025 campaign as fans had hoped. Nobody is hitting the panic button just yet. Still, general manager Adam Peters will have his finger on the pulse to make the necessary changes, as things teeter on a knife-edge.

Peters has displayed his cutthroat roster-building mentality in recent months. The Commanders' squad looks entirely different from the one he inherited, which isn't a bad thing. Not every move has come off, but the front-office leader will keep swinging until he finds the right formula.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, Peters could be tempted into another swing if things aren't satisfactory. And one NFL analyst believes there is a potential acquisition out there who could help Washington get over the hump.

Commanders urged to explore deadline trade for CB Riq Woolen

Alex Kay from The Bleacher Report urged the Commanders to call the Seattle Seahawks about the availability of cornerback Riq Woolen. Insider reports suggest that the defensive back might be available, and the analyst thought two Day 3 picks might be enough to get this hypothetical deal finalized.

One way the Commanders could bolster their flailing coverage abilities is by bringing in Riq Woolen. While the 2022 Pro Bowler may not be thriving in 2025, he's still only giving up a respectable 61.1 percent completion rate in coverage and should have plenty of tread left on his tires at the age of 26. If Seattle is willing to move on from Woolen, the Commanders should capitalize and bolster one of the weakest areas of their roster. It could be the difference between a deep playoff run and missing out entirely.Alex Kay

Woolen burst onto the scene as a rookie, and he's been pretty solid ever since. However, he is also in the final year of his deal and wants to be paid accordingly. That presents a problem for the Seahawks, so they might be willing to give him up in pursuit of getting something back in return.

That's a calculated risk that would remove a prominent starting figure from their exceptional defense. Woolen's logging 97 percent of snaps. He's been inconsistent, for the most part, but he looks tailor-made for the scheme run by Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr. in Washington.

Peters might be reluctant to part ways with more draft capital. Woolen will also want to be paid, which presents an issue. Even so, the Commanders' cornerback room being a major disappointment so far could provide the urgency needed to make another bold splash if they cannot turn things around in the coming weeks.
