Adam Peters hasn't been afraid to make bold trades if he feels like it can benefit the Washington Commanders' outlook in 2025. One NFL analyst believes the general manager should consider making another move to fortify a problem position group.
Peters is a ruthless roster builder. He's made several cutthroat decisions this offseason as the Commanders look to get over the hump. The front-office leader has had the Midas touch so far. Fans are hoping his newfound aggressiveness can reap similar rewards this time around.
If things don't go according to plan, Peters won't hesitate to make further changes. The Commanders don't have much spare draft capital after trading for Marshon Lattimore, Deebo Samuel Sr., and Laremy Tunsil, but Washington is in win-now mode.
Moe Moton from The Bleacher Report thought Washington should make a trade to acquire edge rusher Kwity Paye. And the Indianapolis Colts could be willing sellers with a player who could leave for nothing in free agency next year.
Washington needs a young defensive end who can line up on all three downs to rush the pocket and stop the run. [Kwity] Paye isn't a marquee player, but he's consistent and still has room for growth. The 26-year-old has logged at least eight sacks in back-to-back seasons and 10 tackles for loss in two of his four campaigns. Indianapolis may not be willing to give Paye a new contract before he tests free agency next offseason. If rookie second-rounder JT Tuimoloau shows flashes this year, the Colts may listen to offers for Paye. Washington has the cap space flexibility to acquire and sign him to an extension.Moe Moton
Paye's been a decent performer since entering the league as a first-round pick. He's got 16.5 sacks over the last two seasons, and the Michigan product is also becoming more impactful against the run for good measure. Washington's defensive line performed well above expectations this summer. Whether they can do the same when things matter more remains to be seen.
The Commanders are all-in for success in 2025. Giving up two more picks for what could be a one-year rental isn't ideal, but it might be a sacrifice Peters is willing to make if it can provide the spark needed to generate pressure consistently.
This wouldn't be imminent. The Commanders will give those currently around a chance to make a lasting contribution. If they cannot provide the consistency needed, a move like this becomes a more realistic proposition.
In an ideal world, the team's options will thrive, and Peters won't have to give up assets for another new addition. But it'll be interesting to see if they're up to the task.
