Commanders hit with devastating Laremy Tunsil injury news

The Washington Commanders will be without star left tackle Laremy Tunsil for a while, and perhaps the entire 2026 NFL season.

Tunsil suffered an upper-body injury during Commanders practice on Saturday that is serious enough to likely require surgery, according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

“Commanders five-time Pro Bowl LT Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps in practice today during 1-on-1 pass-rush drills. He’ll likely require surgery and will miss at least a significant portion of the regular season,” Garafolo wrote in a post on X.

This is a punch to the gut for the Commanders, particularly for quarterback Jayden Daniels and his protection unit. As one of the best pass protectors in the league, Tunsil’s absence is a huge downgrade for Washington’s offensive line.

Adam Schefter of ESPN said the Commanders are still “gathering information on the exact injury timeline,” but the expectation is that the Ole Miss product is going to miss a lot of time.

What makes Tunsil’s injury even more crushing for the Commanders is the fact that they had just signed him to a 2-year, $60.2 million contract extension in March. Tunsil has played just one season so far with Washington, which acquired him via a trade with the Houston Texans in 2025.

The 32-year-old Tunsil started in 14 games in his first season with the Commanders.
