McLaurin also eclipsed 5,000 receiving yards for his career. He has four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown against the Rams.

DEC 16 COMMANDERS TO REPORTEDLY FIRE RON RIVERA AND FRONT OFFICE MEMBERS AFTER THE SEASON Ron Rivera's days as the Washington Commanders' head coach appear to be numbered. 

The Athletic reported that the Commanders are going to fire Rivera and members of the front office after the season. They also reported that moving on from Rivera after the season was always in the plans for owner Josh Harris and it's "not a secret anymore."

The decision to clean house after the season wouldn't be a shock. The Commanders are 4-9 and won't finish above .500 for the seventh consecutive season. While Rivera has done a lot of good for the organization, including dealing with scandal after scandal with previous owner Dan Snyder, to still coaching the team as he fought cancer, the results haven't been there for the last three seasons after they won the NFC East in his first year as head coach in 2020.

Washington faces the Los Angeles Rams (6-7) on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium.

DEC 13 BURGESS LEADS PRO BOWL VOTES The Washington Commanders could be sending a new face to the Pro Bowl.

Terrell Burgess was named as the current leader for the NFC in Pro Bowl votes.

Last year, the Commanders sent Jeremy Reaves to the Pro Bowl, but injuries have cost him this season. Now, Burgess could be the next Commanders special teamer to make his first Pro Bowl.

DEC 4 SHAQ LEONARD SIGNS WITH EAGLES Arguably the top free agent on the market is joining the NFC East.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing former All-Pro Shaq Leonard.

Leonard was surprisingly cut by the Indianapolis Colts last week after six years with the team.

While the Washington Commanders don't play the Eagles the rest of the way, he could re-sign in the offseason and give the team another tough player to play against in the NFC East.

DEC 3 SAM HOWELL RUNS IN SECOND TD Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is using his legs against the Miami Dolphins.

NOV 28 FLETCHER TO THE HALL? Former Washington linebacker London Fletcher is one step closer to the Hall of Fame.

Fletcher, 48, was named as one of 25 semifinalists for the Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Fletcher reached the Pro Bowl four times during his tenure in Washington from 2007-13.

NOV 22 SAM HOWELL THANKSGIVING TOUCHDOWN In his first Thanksgiving Day appearance, Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell ran for a 1-yard touchdown with 1:51 left in the first half.

The Commanders trail 14-10 against the Cowboys.

NOV 19 CURTIS SAMUEL EJECTED VS. GIANTS AFTER FIGHT Things are getting chippy in the NFC East.

Washington Commanders receiver Curtis Samuel and New York Giants defensive back Cor'Dale Flott were ejected after participating in a brawl late in the second quarter.

The Commanders are trailing 14-9 against the Giants at the end of the second quarter.

NOV 1 HEINICKE REPLACES RIDDER The Atlanta Falcons have benched quarterback Desmond Ridder for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, turning to former Washington Commanders signal caller Taylor Heinicke.

Falcons coach Arthur Smith announced the decision to reporters Wednesday and noted that Ridder, who was removed prematurely from last week's 28-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans after being checked for a concussion, has cleared protocol.

Smith said his choice ultimately came down to "a lot of variables" and was done with the short-term picture in mind. He didn't choose to elaborate whether the move will continue in the weeks to come.

Atlanta hosts Minnesota at 1 p.m. EST Sunday inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

OCT 31 GIBSON TRADE BLOCK? Antonio Gibson is reportedly a name to keep an eye on NFL Trade Deadline Day is here, per @JPFinlayNBCS.

The Commanders have of course turned to Brian Robinson to carry the load in the backfield, but Finlay writes, "His role is reduced in Washington but other teams like his upside. Doesn’t mean something will get done but at least conversations."

Gibson, a former third-round pick, only has 20 carries in eight games this season. The deadline is today at 4 p.m. ET.

OCT 25 WASHINGTON COMMANDERS START CLOCK ON DEFENSIVE TACKLE 2022 second round NFL Draft pick and defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis has missed every game this regular season due to a calf injury. 

On Wednesday the team announced it has opened the 21-day window for Mathis to return off of injured reserve and will resume practice this week.

In the past there are several occasions where a player has returned to practice and the active roster in the same week, so there’s at least an outside chance Mathis plays for the Commanders this weekend when they host the Philadelphia Eagles.

OCT 23 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES TRADE FOR ALL-PRO SAFETY An already stout Philadelphia Eagles defense has gotten even better on Monday. 

The Eagles (6-1) traded a fifth and sixth-round pick along with Terrell Edmunds for Tennessee Titans All-Pro safety Kevin Byard per NFL insider Dianna Russini. 

Byard is a two-time first-team All-Pro and has made the Pro Bowl twice. He was third on the Titans in tackles with 47 this season.

The last time the Eagles made a deal with the Titans, they got All-Pro receiver A.J. Brown in a deal that looks better for Philadelphia and more head-scratching with each passing game. If Byard manages to have anywhere near a similar impact to Brown, the rest of the league may be in even more trouble.    

Byard will make his Eagles debut on Sunday when they face the Washington Commanders at 1 p.m. at FedEx Field

OCT 18 JAMISON CROWDER WINS NFC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE YEAR Jamison Crowder was named the NFC Special Teams Player Of The Week after his performance in the Washington Commanders' 24-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. 

Crowder had a huge 61-yard punt return that positioned the Washington offense at Falcons' 11-yard line. Washington capitalized three plays later on a one-yard touchdown pass from Sam Howell to Antonio Gibson, which gave them a 10-7 lead and they didn't trail for the rest of the game. 

"That was huge," Howell said of Crowder's punt return. "Whenever you can get sparks from defense or special teams, it definitely helps the offense."

Crowder also won the award in 2016 for his performance in Week 5, which included an 85-yard punt return for a touchdown in Washington's 16-10 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

Crowder's 61-yard return against the Falcons was the longest punt return in the NFC this season and marked the third time he has had one of over 50 yards. 

OCT 18 ROGER'S NEW DEAL  NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has helped the owners make a fortune over the course of his 15 years in the big office. And now he's officially increasing his fortune as well.

According to business reporter Daniel Kaplan, Goodell's contract extension, which runs through 2027, has been "signed and finalized."

Goodell's salary has long been speculated to be at about $40 million per year. But experts also suggest that when all of his income is piled together, the total in earnings as the NFL commissioner is in the range of $700 million.
