Commanders Unveil Alternate Uniforms With Throwback Touch

As the Washington Commanders step into the 2025 season facing their largest Super Bowl expectations in decades, the franchise is now channeling its rich championship history with new alternate uniforms that pay homage to previous eras.

The Commanders unveiled the new threads Wednesday morning in a series of posts with photos, a video chronicling the team's history, and a schedule of the time they will wear the combo.

The uniforms feature a white top, burgundy bottoms, and bold white and gold stripes on the helmet and pants. The numbers also feature a shiny gold trim and there is a throwback font on the name plate.

The Commanders own three Lombardi Trophies in the Super Bowl era and two pre-merger championships prior to then.

Washington reigned atop the league in 1982 (XVII), 1987 (XXII) and 1991 (XXVI).

The franchise honors the 80s and 90s teams with this iconic uniform refresh in the video tribute below.

"History doesn't fade ... it fuels the future," the team wrote on social media.

The national audience will get to watch the Commanders take the field in these new uniforms three times this season - twice on Sunday Night Football and on a Thursday NFL triple header on Christmas Day:

- Week 9 vs. Seattle Seahawks: SNF 8:20 p.m. ET

- Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos: SNF 8:20 p.m. ET

- Week 17 vs. Dallas Cowboys: Christmas Day 1 p.m. ET (Netflix)

Last season the Commanders enjoyed a dramatic turnaround from four wins in 2023 to 12 in 2024. They continued their excellent play under first-year head coach Dan Quinn and star quarterback Jayden Daniels deep into the playoffs where they made the NFC Championship Game for the first time since their 1991 Super Bowl victory.

Now over three decades later, Washington is ready to return to contention with newfound swagger from their iconic throwback look.
