Commanders Urged To Sign NFC Rival Star Receiver
Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders will enter their second offseason with Adam Peters and Dan Quinn armed with roughly $78 million in cap space to do some serious wheeling and dealing.

Of course, some of that is for players already on Washington's roster, but still, many expect the Commanders to be serious buyers for the second straight offseason as they try and take advantage of Jayden Daniels' rookie contract.

A receiver has been touted as a top need to help ease the pressure on Terry McLaurin. While Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins has been mentioned as a target, Yahoo Sports' John Molnar knows there's a certain NFC team that has a weapon they could use.

"One way to make this team even more deadly would be to add the likes of Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin, who was having a phenomenal season pre-injury in 2024," Molnar writes. "Adding him to play the slot alongside Scary Terry would create a scary duo. He brings a skillful route runner on the inside, who could receive a bunch of targets while McLaurin takes on two defenders. This seems like a match made in heaven for the Commanders."

Having Godwin doing his work in the slot while McLaurin does his thing on the outside would give Daniels two bonafide stars in the passing game.

With the Buccaneers stating they will do everything they can to keep Godwin, it will be a tough move to make for Washington. But it's one it must try.

Armed with the cap space and a serious drop-off in production after McLaurin in the passing game, Godwin looms as a realistic target.

Whether or not Peters and Quinn aggressively go after Godwin is unknown, but he might just be the next key piece in the Commanders' Super Bowl puzzle.
