The winds of change have blown through The Star this offseason with a host of coaching changes on both sides of the ball that, on paper, has Cowboy Nation excited.
One such move is former Kansas State coach Conor Riley, who will be reunited with Cooper Beebe and Deuce Vaughn, both of whom he coached while at the Wildcats.
We have heard from new head coach Brian Schottenheimer about wanting to run the football, and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams, who also has workings with the offensive line wants the unit to be violent, and now along comes Riley.
What are his thoughts on how he wants the offensive line to play under his guidance?
“I think it's very well known that we need to have a physical identity,” Riley said with a steely conviction. “We need to have the want to and the grit that it takes to play that particular position, so the mentality is, we are going to control the controllables. How well we communicate, how hard we play, how physical we are, those are things in my mind that we are 100% in control of, and that's the mentality that I want to go into this with.”
That will be music to the ears of Cowboys fans, and while this coaching group has only been together for a short while, they all align with the expectations for the offense.
Dallas hasn't been known as a "physical" football team for years, but coach Schottenheimer appears determined to bring it back in 2025, and his coaching appointments also suggest that.
One thing that we can count on the Cowboys being next season under Schottenheimer, Klayton and Riley is a physical and violent football team, and the offense has every ability to thrive when it starts up front.
Yes, it is only early, but we sure like what we're hearing from The Star right now—and you should, too.
