Cowboys Add QB Joe Milton To Practice Squad

Days after losing out on a Cowboys roster spot, Joe Milton has resurfaced on the organization’s practice squad. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Milton has signed with the Cowboys taxi squad.

Before Milton cleared waivers, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones expressed interest in stashing the QB on their practice squad. The organization ended up getting their wish, and the 26-year-old will provide some positional depth behind Dak Prescott and Sam Howell.

The Tennessee product was a sixth-round pick by the Patriots in 2024, and he showed some promise during his lone cameo as a rookie. Milton helped guide New England to one of their four victories that season, completing 22 of his 29 pass attempts for 241 yards and one touchdown in a Week 18 win over the Bills.

With Drake Maye entrenched as the future starter and Joshua Dobbs added as the QB2, the Patriots moved on from Milton last offseason, sending him to Dallas (along with a 2025 seventh-round pick) for a 2025 fifth-round pick. The QB ultimately got into four games during his first season with the Cowboys, completing 15 of his 24 pass attempts for 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Milton has been lauded for his arm strength and athleticism, although he hasn’t taken steps forward with his accuracy nor decision making. The Cowboys made it clear that they’re still willing to invest in the player’s development, although not at the expense of a roster spot.
