Even though the Dallas Cowboys remain without a Super Bowl ring for nearly three decades, their fan base always stands its ground and chants that it’s their year. The vibe is much different heading into the 2025 season.
A 7-10 finish turned the Cowboys into a subject of ridicule for most. The Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb contract saga created an edginess that extended into the offseason that just ended.
Owner Jerry Jones played a game of tag with star pass rusher Micah Parsons regarding his contract. Parsons refused to cave in to Jones’ demands and forced a trade.
The Cowboys not only lost a player with 50+ sacks in his first four seasons of pro football, but they also gave away a leader in the locker room to a team that humiliated them a couple of seasons earlier.
If the morale wasn’t already low from the fact that there’s a rookie head coach at the helm, the shock of losing a player of Parsons’ caliber may have caused the confidence level to hit rock bottom.
The Athletic asked fans of every NFL team to compile a list called ‘Hope-O-Meter.’ It assesses their level of faith in their team’s chances of winning the Super Bowl.
Needless to say, the Cowboys’ performance was abysmal. They ranked 30th (13.1% optimism) out of 32, with even the most optimistic of fans gearing up for the worst.
Jerry Jones is killing the franchise.
A fan told The Athletic
Most fans blamed Jones and his flawed policies for the Cowboys’ poor state of affairs. The yearly profit margin does little to flatter the supporters. They only want to see their team lifting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the season.
Jerry Jones is a clown. I denied it for a long time, giving the benefit of the doubt, but the handling of the Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb [contracts], and now the absolute lack of foresight and professionalism around Micah Parsons has pushed me over the edge.

It could always be worse — in Dallas at least.

How hopeful are Cowboys fans heading into the 2025 NFL season?

It’s easy to argue that, after all these years, Jones would walk away from dealing with affairs related to the Cowboys. Unless there’s a major health issue, the 82-year-old won’t give his throne to another individual, not even his own children. The reason behind his obsession with the Star stems from his love for pain and the thrill of the job.
Jones pushed back against fans holding him accountable for the entire Parsons debacle. He countered with a firm statement.
This gives us a better chance to be a better team than we have been the last several years while Micah has been here. Nothing negative on Micah. We can win more games than we would have, had we gone the other route and signed Micah.
Jones went straight to work by giving new contracts to DaRon Bland and Hunter Lupeke. If the reports are true, then there are a couple more on the cards as well.
The Eagles-Cowboys is a staple fixture in the NFL. A 27-25 win in 1960 set off a fierce rivalry. Since then, these two NFC rivals have met on 132 different occasions. The Cowboys lead the tie with a 74-58 record (56.1%).
Over the last 25 years, the defending champions have had a 21-4 record in Week 1. However, two of those occurred in the last three years, and the Cowboys defeated the New York Giants in 2012.
Despite the recent history, the Eagles are heavily favored to start their title defense with a win (8.5-point odds by CBS Sports).
