Cowboys Get Official Playoff News on Saturday

Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys were not in action on Saturday night. The NFL had two games on the docket, starting with the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Washington Commanders.

Washington put up a formidable effort against the defending champions, but they came up short against an Eagles side that was coming off a dominant 31-0 shutout of the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 15. Philly secured a 29-18 win to improve to 10-5 on the season.

The Cowboys aren’t due to take the field until Sunday when they face off against the Los Angeles Chargers, but the result of Saturday’s contest has significantly impacted their season. Philadelphia's win against Washington was not good news for Dallas.

The Cowboys have lost back-to-back games, including their deflating 34-26 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 15. Prescott was not able to do enough to lift his team to victory against Minnesota, finishing with 23-of-38 completed passes for 294 yards and zero touchdowns.

What Are the Cowboys' Playoff Chances?

After that loss, Dallas’ playoff odds dropped to less than 1%, meaning they were waiting for a miracle to keep their postseason dreams alive. Unfortunately for them, Philadelphia’s win on Saturday officially shut the door.

“Aaaannnddd with the Eagles’ win over the Commanders, the Cowboys have officially been eliminated from playoff contention,” Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram posted on X.

Harris also pointed out that the Eagles are the first team to win the East in back-to-back seasons in 21 years.

This development means that Sunday’s contest against the Chargers will officially be a non-bearing game for the Cowboys. Nevertheless, Prescott and Co. are still expected to play out the remainder of the season with the objective of stacking up as many wins as they can.

Dallas will host Sunday’s Week 16 contest against a 10-4 Chargers side, which is looking to secure a playoff spot. Kickoff from AT&T Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
