Cowboys, Jalen Ramsey, And The Agent That Could Ruin It All
Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images

The Dolphins and seven-time Pro Bowl corner Jalen Ramsey are officially exploring a trade, per Ian Rapoport.

And on paper - hear me out here - this has Dallas Cowboys written all over it.

Ramsey, still just 30, is owed $25 million in 2025—but with a $4 million roster bonus already triggered, the acquiring team would only take on $21 million this season. He's also currently under contract through 2028, a timeline that perfectly aligns with the Cowboys’ current competitive window (though the money does get a little bit more tricky on the Cowboys books with each subsequent season).

But here's where it gets fascinating: because of the massive salary commitment, his draft-day trade cost may be relatively low. Miami clears cap, Dallas spends a large-but-fair amount of money fills a glaring hole, and everyone wins ... right?

Well, maybe not.

The twist in the story is Ramsey’s agent: It's David Mulugheta—the same agent currently at war with Jerry Jones over the Micah Parsons extension.

Jones famously pretended not to know David's name.

In theory ... That may come back to bite. Mulugheta could push for a punitive price tag or block a deal entirely, just to get even.

I'd like to think the agent wouldn't do that.

But I do think it's worth tossing into the conversation.

Also worthy of mention is Dallas COO Stephen Jones' infamous frugality when it comes to "credit-card'' spending. ... and some of that might be needed here.

Still ...

The Cowboys have about $35 million in cap space, and even after absorbing Ramsey’s salary, a Micah extension and smart accounting still leave enough flexibility for their rookie class and one more splash. A move like this grants them freedom to go offense-heavy in the draft as wide receiver and running back (and maybe defensive tackle later) can all be addressed without reaching.

If you’ve followed my work, you know I’ve long said: at least one more impact trade needs to happen before the draft. Ramsey might be the one—if ego doesn’t get in the way.
