Cowboys’ Jerry Jones Gets Candid About Giants' John Harbaugh

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has high praise for New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh before their season opener. Jones believes Harbaugh’s coaching ability could make the NFC East rivalry even tougher for Dallas.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan, Jones reflected on Harbaugh’s time with the Baltimore Ravens. “I’ve always thought Baltimore outcoached them since he had been the coach there,” Jones said.

Jones admitted he immediately noticed the potential problem when Harbaugh joined the Giants. “I had a funny feeling when he got there with the Giants, knowing we face him 2 times a year,” Jones said.

The Cowboys will get their first chance to face Harbaugh in his new role on Sunday, Sept. 13. Dallas will visit the Giants at MetLife Stadium for the regular-season opener.

Harbaugh brings a strong track record against Dallas into the matchup. He is 4-1 against the Cowboys, giving the Giants an early reason for confidence.

Jones also offered a clear assessment of Harbaugh’s coaching ability. “He’s an outstanding coach,” the Cowboys owner said.

The matchup carries more weight because Dallas enters the season after a major roster overhaul. The Cowboys have focused heavily on their defense while also adding offensive tackle Broderick Jones through a trade with Pittsburgh.

Dallas made several major defensive moves, including acquiring Quinnen Williams and Rashan Gary. Those additions aim to fix a unit that struggled badly during the 2025 season.

Harbaugh’s arrival gives the Giants a new identity under a proven coach. For Dallas, the opening game provides an immediate test against a division rival with a coach Jones clearly respects.

The Cowboys also remain willing to make more moves, as Jones said, “That does show that we have really viable serious room financially to make trade if we wanted to right now.”

Still, the first challenge comes against Harbaugh. His 4-1 record against Dallas adds more concern to an already important Week 1 matchup.
