The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl champions, and a nearly flawless performance during the postseason — at least in one regard — got them there.
The Seahawks beat the New England Patriots 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX on Sunday. They won the turnover battle 3-0. That’s an impressive stat for two reasons. One, their defense forced three big turnovers during the postseason, and even got a pick-six. Two, their offense didn’t commit any turnovers. And that’s the impressive stat.
The Seahawks are the first team ever to win a Super Bowl without committing a turnover for the entire postseason. That’s wild. The Seahawks slammed the 49ers 41-6 in the Divisional Round and won that turnover battle 3-0 as well. Seattle won the turnover battle 1-0 in their NFC Championship Game win over the Rams.
Sam Darnold had a reputation for choking in the playoffs — and for seeing ghosts. But he stepped up in a big way once this postseason began, and that’s why he is now a Super Bowl champion. He also got most of his turnovers out of the way during the regular season — especially against the Rams.
